Kaspa's Desserts Leeds Review

Kaspa's recently opened a new Leeds store, situated in The Core Shopping Centre. I took my cousin along to check it out, as we do love our dessert. This is not a sponsored post and all views/opinions are my own.

Kaspa's is a nationwide franchise now having stores in most major cities, and from looks of it on their website, they are still expanding.

Kaspa's is a dessert restaurant selling delicious treats such as crepes, waffles, sundaes, and milkshakes. Decorated like a modern diner, you will either love or hate the bright pink and black interior, however, it's fun and will appeal to the teenage/child demographic.

We decided to head in early and grab some breakfast before heading to the Royal Armouries Museum.  The restaurant was quiet due to it been about 10 am, there was only one other customer.
The staff were friendly and greeted us on arrival, one staff member sat us down and explained the menu briefly to us.
The menu had lots to choose from and if you are like me and like to look at the menu before going to a restaurant, then you can find it on the Kaspa's website.
After pondering the menu for a while I chose the Strawberry Indulge Waffle, which was a fresh waffle topped with fresh strawberry slices, chocolate sauce and sprinkled with milk chocolate flakes. I then chose a side of Ice-cream, however, you can get squirty cream if you prefer. I opted just for a glass of water to drink, which was FREE. my total bill came to £5.95. Many people will probably say that isn't cheap for a waffle, but I think it was worth every penny especially as it is all made freshly.

My 13yr old cousin opted to build his own waffle instead of picking one from the list. He chose an Oreo waffle base, fudge pieces, white chocolate sauce, and squirty cream. instead of getting a glass of water to help his waffle go down, he opted for a Bubblegum Milkshake. He didn't let me try his waffle, however, the milkshake was very rich and had a strong flavour. His total came to around £9.50.

With our eyes being bigger than our belly's we did not end up finishing our waffles. We both ate about 3/4. My cousin also only drank about half of his milkshake as it was too filling.
We give Kaspa's Leeds an 8/10. We will be back again to indulge on their amazing desserts. I would say their only let down was upon leaving their staff didn't acknowledge us and say thank you or goodbye.

Propercorn Review

Propercorn is a British Popcorn company that started in 2011. Their popcorn is healthy and guilt free. All of their unique flavored popcorn has less than 130kcals per bag. If you enjoy eating healthy but are bored of fruit or snack bars then I recommend grabbing a bag of Propercorn. All Propercorns flavored popcorn are GM, gluten and wheat free.

1) Their Smooth Peanut and Almond flavor popcorn are suitable for vegans. If you love peanut butter or a nutty flavor, you will probably go nuts over these.

2) A bag of the Lightly Sea Salted popcorn is also suitable for vegans. These will certainly satisfy those who love the classic salted popcorn.

3) Propercorns unique Firey Worcester Sauce and Sundried Tomato flavor popcorn are also suitable for vegans. If you like food with a kick of chili then these are the right flavored popcorn for you.

4) The Sour Cream and Black Pepper flavored popcorn isn't vegan-friendly, however, is suitable for vegetarians. Sour Cream has been a popular flavor on the crisp market for a while, so I am glad Propercorn has introduced it to the popcorn industry.

4) My ultimate favorite form Propercorns collection is their Sweet and Salty. A bag of Sweet and Salty is vegan-friendly and is made using sea salt and brown sugar. How I grew up just eating sweet popcorn at the cinema I will never know, there is no going back now.

5) Sweet Coconut and Vanilla is suitable for vegetarians.  This unique flavour is the perfect mix of Vanilla and Coconut and had me thinking of tropical beaches. If you love the taste of tropical cocktails or delicious coconut then you will certainly enjoy a bag of these.

My university friends and I tucked into the box of Propercorn, and they were all blown away by the unique flavours and incredible taste. I highly reccomend Propercorn and you can find it in most major supermarkets. Luckily for us they also sell it at our university. Check out there website for more details. https://www.propercorn.com
Best Wishes

How To Make A Spiderweb Cake

With Halloween just days away I thought I would show you how I make a Spiderweb Halloween Cake. I first made this cake last year and was very impressed in how easy it is to make. Honestly I have had to wait a year to share with you how to do it.
All your going to need is a chocolate cake or cake kit, chocolate icing, giant marshmallows, and black ready to roll fondant.

  1. To make the cake we used the Betty Crocker Devils Food Cake Mix, however if you prefer you can make the cake yourself. We added 3 eggs and 8 tablespoons of olive oil into the mixture and mixed until combined.
  2. Next line a cake tin or two, I used one and then cut the cake in half later.
  3. Pour your mixture into the cake tin and level it. Pop your cake in the oven on Gas mark 4 or 180'C for around 30mins.
  4. Once your cake is cooled cut it in half, if you haven't baked it in separate tins. Also don't forget to level the cake as you want a nice flat top.
  5. Sandwich the two halves together using some chocolate icing, we used Betty Crocker Chocolate Icing.
  6. Feel free to ice the outside of the cake too.  We decided not to in fear it was going to rip the cake.
  7. Pop 2 giant marshmellows in a microwave bowl and melt them for around 10-20 seconds.  They should come out looking nearly melted, almost like marshmallow fluff.
  8. With your hands grab some of the melted marshmallow in your hand (be careful it may be hot) and start to pull it until it becomes quite stringy and elasticated. Pull your hands apart and drape the marshmallow over the cake creating a spiderweb effect.
  9. Once you have finished stringing the marshmallow over the cake you can use some black ready to roll fondant to create spiders.

To make things a lot easier I have also uploaded a Youtube video to show you exactly how to make it. If you make this cake then feel free to tweet me pictures @KayleighmPlatt or tag me on Instagram @kayleighmplatt.

Victoria Gate Leeds

As a Leeds based lifestyle blogger I always like to keep up to date with whats going on around my city. This week the highly anticipated opening of the new Victoria Gate Shopping Centre and John Lewis Store finally happened.
I am such an eager beaver when new things open within the city, especially anything to do with fashion.

The new centre is set up as a twin arcade just like the older Victoria Quarter. Leeds has many shopping arcades so its nice to see the designers decided to reflect the other buildings from around the city. The modern design and architecture is absolutely stunning and I had to pick up my jaw from the floor, when I first walked in. The shop fronts are designed as flowing curves which I have never seen before. The whole of the centre is finished to a high standard and screams luxury like the brands that are offered inside. The polished marble floor and copper lights are eye catching and will have you thinking about interior design for days.

Within the new centre theres a lot new brands that have set up shop within Leeds. They include Anthropologie, Calvin Klein, Cath Kidston, Hackett and Aspinal of London, just to name a few. There is a store to suit everyone within the new centre. There is also places to eat and drink on offer, if you are feeling a little peckish during your shopping trip. Le Pain Quotidien is a bakery in the heart of the centre that serves traditional dishes and quality fresh breads. There is also a John Lewis Cafe and Pret A Manger in the centre.
The centre is soon set to open it's super casino, which will be the third-largest casino in the UK. It is 50,000 sq ft and has the capacity of 1,400 people. Not only does the casino have gaming, but it also has two bars, a restaurant and a function space. The casino is set to rival some of the top casinos in the betting capital of the world, Las Vegas. The casino is set to open at the end of the year.

The new John Lewis store fits perfectly within the centre. It's design is truly unique and I like it's triangle abstract design. John Lewis is a fantastic department store as it offers a lot of popular brands. As you first walk in you are greeted by the cosmetic brands. This is a dangerous territory for me and it could do serious damage to my bank account. Within the first floor you can find brands such as Benefit, MAC, and Charlotte Tilbury. The new John Lewis store has floor to suit everyone and fulfil everybody needs. Its even got a Christmas section which really made me feel all cozy and excited for the festive season. I am really excited to start my christmas shopping and making use of the new John Lewis store as they offer an amazing range of christmas goodies.

If you live within the West Yorkshire area I highly recommend coming and checking out the new Victoria Gate Centre and John Lewis Store. If you enjoyed this post then please follow my blog for future content.

Enjoy

High Protein Snacks

If there is one thing I struggle with when trying to lead a healthier lifestyle, its eating healthy snacks. I have a sweet tooth and love chocolate, cake and sweets, but they really aren't helping me to achieve my goals.  I have done quit a bit of research lately into healthier snacks and I wanted to share my favourites with you. Of course fruit and nuts are the best healthy choices, but with winter on its way a lot of my favourite fruit is unavailable, due it been out of season.
As a busy uni student I can often get distracted by the the unhealthy food that surrounds my university campus. I wanted to find snacks that I could easily pop in my bag and eat between lectures or munch on before or after the gym.

Trek Bars are one of my favourites on the list. They are Protein Flapjacks without the nasty protein texture or taste. The bars come in a range of different flavours to suit everyone's tastes buds.  The majority of the different flavoured bars have 10g grams of protein packed into them, which will keep you fuelled for longer.  I was also shocked to learn that Trek bars are vegan friendly and contain no wheat or gluten. They retail for around 99p-£1.50.

I will admit I am not huge fan of the taste of Nakd products but I do like the idea of them. I feel the majority of the products taste the same and its usually because the ingredients are practically identical. I like how they do a range of products from nibbles to bars and how easy it is just to pop them in your bag. Nakd products are also vegan friendly and contain no wheat or gluten. I hope in the future they improve on the flavouring. Nakd products retail between £1-£3.

Bounce is a new company that I have recently come across and I can tell you so far that I am extremely impressed with there protein balls. Unlike most protein products they don't have that protein/powder taste however they do have that chewy texture. They aren't as chewy as other protein bars I have tasted, but it could still be improved. I give the flavouring of the energy balls a 10/10 they taste exactly like what is said on the packet. My favourite Bounce Ball flavours are Cocoa Mint, and Peanut Protein Blast. All the Bounce Balls are high in protein, gluten free and suitable for Vegetarians.

If you are looking for healthier snack choices that are high in Protein then I highly recommend checking these companies out. All opinions are my own and this post is not sponsored by any of the mentioned companies.

How To Save Money As A Student!

Being a student often means three years of finical difficulty, due to paying expensive tuition fees, and ridiculous rent prices. Today I am going to share with you my tips to saving money as a student.

1) Be a savvy shopper- Food and household items can be really expensive, well depending on where you get them from. My top advice tip is to shop around, don't stick to one supermarket or shop. I recommend buying things such as shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, toilet roll, cereal, sweet treats and drinks from pound shops such as PoundLand, Pound World and Home Bargains. These shops sell popular brands just like supermarkets but for a fraction of the price.

My other tip for being a savvy shopper is to shop at supermarkets an hour or two before closing time when items are reduced. You can't miss the bright Yellow reduction stickers which are put on reduced items. The best places to look for these reduced items are in the bakery, hot food, meat and fish, and fresh food sections. You could also check out the reduced section which most supermarkets have at any part of the day. The reduced section usually has stock which either has damaged packaging or is short dated.

2) Freebies- Who doesn't love a freebie? well there is enough to go around. If you are starting as a fresher this year or going back for your 2nd or 3rd yr, I hope you have arranged to go to your universities fresher fair. The Freshers Fair is a great place to bag some freebies. Local companies will be there handing out free food, drinks, stationary and vouchers. I highly recommend visiting as many stalls as you can and seeing what you can get for free.
Using websites to get freebie is such a great idea. Over the last month I have had a perfume sample, some coconut oil and free facemarks from The Body Shop. These sites have many different types of freebies from cosmetics, to food. My favourite sites to find freebies on are magicfreebiesuk.co.uk, latestfreestuff.co.uk, and wowfreestuff.co.uk. Sites such as Money Saving Expert and Student Money Saver are also great for finding freebies.

3) Cash Back Sites- Cash back websites are only just becoming popular, with most people still not sure how they work. I recently joined two after seeing some offers on the Student Money Saver website which I couldn't resist. The first offer I saw was for new members on the Quidco website. If you spent £10 or more on the New Look website you got £10 cash back. I decided to try it out and bought a bomber jacket in the online sale. I also saved money on delivery costs by having it sent to my local store. My purchase didn't track straight away and I had to put in a claim for the money but Quidco worked swiftly and I got my £10 cash back after around 2 weeks. In the end my new jacket cost me £4 which is a great money save.  I also recently joined topcashback.co.uk after seeing that if you bought a W7 makeup kit from Fragrance Direct for £12.99 you get the full cash back. Once I get the £12.99 cash back I will have only paid £1.49. Both Quidco and TopCashBack are partnered with many popular retail brands which you probably already use, so I recommend going through the links on there websites so that you can get money back on your purchases. My only issue with cash back sites is how long it takes you to get the money back, If you don't mind waiting a few weeks for it to go through it isn't too bad.

4) Vouchers- Vouchers and coupons are great for getting you money of products and sometimes you can even get items for free when using them. My favourite places to look for coupons are on the sites Money Saving Expert and SuperSavvyMe. The are updated regularly with easy to print coupons to use on a variety of products. I recommend reading the coupons carefully as you probably can only  use them in selected stores. Sometimes you may come across coupons which you can use multiple times however often its one per transaction. Another great way to find coupons is just Google search 'Coupons, then the month, year, and country you are in'. The apps VoucherCodes and VoucherCloud are a great download as they have money off restaurants, bars and shops. As a student you can pretty much get money off most places and there is many ways to do it. I recommend purchasing a NUS card which gets you discount on things such as travel and gig tickets. Another website I recommend joining is myunidays.com which you have to link up to your university username and password to get verified. I recently purchased a 6 month gym membership for Pure Gym through myunidays.com which saved me £30 and a £10 joining fee.
Don't be afraid to complain, if something wasn't right with a purchase or you felt you received bad customer service, then make a complaint. A complaint often leads you to getting a voucher or refund. Also if you received a great product or you got fantastic customer service, then drop the company a thank you email. They may just award you with a voucher or free product.

5) Competitions- I love entering competitions as a hobby and I have won things such as £150 worth of No7 makeup, theatre tickets, a dressing gown and slippers from New Look, £100 worth of household items and a game. Entering competitions is a great way to get your hands on free things. You can win stuff such as holidays, clothes, vouchers, hampers, and technology. Honestly the list is endless of the different prizes you could win. My favourite sites for entering competitions are competition time forum on Money Saving Expert, theprizefinder.com, and the competition database. I also like to use Twitter as a way to enter competitions, just use the search 'RT to win or #win' in the search bar and it will bring you up lots of competitions. To higher your chances of winning you need to entering around 100 day. This may seem like a lot but it isn't once you get into it.

So thats my top 5 tips for saving money as a student. I hope these tips help you and let me know in the comments below how you save money as a student.
